Brownwood native to come home to tout education at college, job fair Saturday in Abilene, Texas
Tagged: children, dropout rate, parents, reporter, student“Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Brownwood as one of five children born to migrant farm workers.
Andrade, the founder and president of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, is coming home to Brownwood on Saturday to host the organization’s inaugural Central Texas Career Day and College Recruitment Fair for Hispanic students and parents.
”We want to create the assumption in every Hispanic household that students will pursue post-secondary education or training,” Andrade said from his Chicago office Wednesday. ”This is the best way I know to lower the dropout rate, improve student performance and increase the number of Hispanic students learning a good marketable skill or pursuing a professional career.””
