“The state’s first charter school has cleared its last official hurdle and will open in August in Hendrix Drive Elementary School in Forest Park.

The Georgia Board of Education has approved the charter petition for Unidos Dual Language Charter School for a five-year term from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2011.

Residents seeking to operate new schools in Georgia are required to gain approval from local school boards as well as the state board, according to state law. The Clayton County Board of Education approved the school’s charter last year.”
