“Building relationships between Jewish and Latino teens, learning about each other’s cultures, and engaging in political advocacy were high on the list of priorities for the Jewish-Latino Teen Coalition, established by the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona and Rep. Raul Grijalva last fall. A recent trip to Washington furthered the growing bond among the coalition’s 10 students, who attend various Tucson high schools.

It is important that these teen voices are heard, and they “resonate more strongly when they join together, says Josh Protas, one of the coalition’s organizers and director of the Jewish Community Relations Council. Prior to the trip, coalition members chose issues relating to discrimination and education for discussion with representatives of the Jewish and Hispanic communities in Washington.”
