“Members of Metro Atlanta’s Latino community have held demonstrations and even a work stoppage to protest legislation that makes Georgia’s anti-immigration law among the toughest in the nation.

With the signature from Gov. Sonny Perdue on Monday that makes the bill a law, many Latinos said they believe the Legislature and the Governor have betrayed them.

At Plaza Fiesta in DeKalb County, where 50,000 protestors of the bill congregated after a massive rally one week ago, hundreds of Hispanic immigrants gather every day to shop. Some of them are in the United States legally while others, like Levi Martins of Brazil, are not.”
