“Calling for new voices in Dallas politics, Hispanic student leaders are planning a mass voter registration drive instead of another school walkout next month.
Three days after hundreds of thousands of people marched through downtown Dallas to support rights for illegal immigrants, the students met Wednesday in a school auditorium to keep momentum and the public spotlight.
But they asked their fellow classmates not to leave school May 1, the day of a planned nationwide work stoppage and economic boycott. Instead, they will host an after-school rally and voter registration drive at Oak Cliff’s Kiest Park and other locations.”
