“Guilarte, who spent a full season chasing dreams on the World Qualifying Series a couple of years ago, will be competing in this weekend’s $5,000 Gillette Fusion Tour Men’s Shortboard Pro-Am at the Cocoa Beach Pier as part of the 42nd annual Easter Surfing Festival.

Proud of his Hispanic heritage (his dad, Luis, is Cuban and his mom, Eva, is Polish), Guilarte says he’s covered all the basics: Smoking a Cuban cigar (”I like the Monte Cristos”), drinking a Cuba Libre (”I’ve had the ones in a can”) and eating Cuban sandwiches (”the ones in 7-11 are the best”).”
