“State legislators moved in two different directions this week on immigration reform, alternately passing and killing bills aimed at stemming illegal immigration.
As lawmakers await Congress to address immigration reform, a House panel Tuesday shot down a bill that would require some state troopers to be trained to enforce immigration laws.
“This could lead most of the good members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol to the unintended problem of racial profiling,” said Juan Canedo, a spokesman for the Hispanic Community Group of Tennessee and a Nashville resident who became a United States citizen five years ago.
