“The two Democratic candidates for governor attempted to woo Latino voters during a debate Tuesday, with New Haven Mayor John DeStefano claiming he has closer ties to the community than Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy.

It marked one of the few clashes between the two mayors, who are vying for the party’s nomination and will likely wage a primary to win the chance to challenge Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell in November.

The Puerto Rican Affairs Commission’s Toastmasters Club sponsored the debate, which touched on immigration, health care, employment and other issues important to the Hispanic community.”
