“The rally for immigrants’ rights here started like many of those in the rest of the country today where hundreds of thousands took to the streets in peaceful demonstrations: A call over Spanish-language radio.

The radio station in this case is WMLV-AM, known as La Movida, which offers Spanish-language programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many of those in the crowd estimated at 10,000 by the police and at 25,000 by organizers said today that they had learned of this rally from the radio station. For some people in the burgeoning Latino community, many of them undocumented immigrants who speak no English, it is their only link to each other, and to news about the world.”
