Knowledge is Power!
“My time working as a Latina within the entertainment industry has been a non-stop eye opening, sometimes jaw dropping, but always interesting experience. Hired because my last name “sounded like a Mexican soap opera star” or because I had an “ethereal look” only made me have to work harder, longer and with more focus in order to get my skills noticed. When up for freelance tv producing gigs, I would literally sigh with relief if the hiring producer had a Latin last name. I know, it’s twisted, but they were always the ones who would consider my resume first and who ultimately treated me the fairest. I mean just look at the credits on a non-Latin produced program and you’d be hard pressed to find more than a handful of Latino’s working on the crew, and rarely within the creative staff.”
