Immigration reform supporters march to South Carolina Statehouse

“Thousands of people chanted and carried signs as they marched to the Statehouse on Monday, urging federal lawmakers to make it easier for the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants to become citizens.

“We’re trying to send a message to Congress,” said Edgar Medina, event organizer and chairman of the South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council.

Alejandro Garcia helped carry a banner at the front of a crowd that stretched three blocks down Columbia’s Main Street to the steps of the Statehouse. Some people returning from lunch break stopped to watch the commotion.”
