“When Hispanic youth protested at City Hall instead of reporting to their classrooms, it was easy to dismiss them as not knowing why they were demonstrating but clearly enjoying a day off from school.
After all, these are young people, not sophisticated professionals who can stand before the media and communicate the depth to which their illegal alien status impacts their dreams and future. But 15 years of working with undocumented youth has shown me the real pain and tears that go along with living in a situation in which their parents fear deportation.”
