“Student organizers said they expect hundreds of their East and West Aurora high school peers to cut class this morning and march through downtown for immigration reform.
“I think about it as a field trip,” said West Aurora High School sophomore Jose Garcia, 16, who said he has been involved in planning the demonstration. “It’s educational. We’re trying to encourage kids to take action and to care about things that actually matter.”
Teens will meet across the street from West Aurora High School at about 8 a.m. and march to either Aurora City Hall or to Super Mercado El Guero, on Root Street a few blocks east of downtown, Garcia said. El Guero manager Jose Oregon said he gave the OK for students to hold a demonstration in the supermarket parking lot.”
