“To some, Tiburcio Vasquez was a Mexican Robin Hood who wanted California back in Mexican hands and disliked white settlers.
But to others, he was a killer, a robber and a horse thief.
It’s hard to separate fact from fiction when it comes to Vasquez, who had hideouts in the San Gabriel Mountains. The legend and the man have become intertwined.
He’s still popular because he represents the Latinos in California who were heavily discriminated against, according to John W. Robinson, who wrote about Vasquez in his book “The San Gabriels.”"
