Labor leaders accept immigrants into their ranks
“In the early 1980s, it would not have been unheard-of for union leaders who suspected immigrants were working illegally to call the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
“That was the way we handled it,” said E. Dale Wortham, president of the Harris County AFL-CIO and vice president of IBEW Local 716. “We didn’t have the foresight to see that they were the future of the labor movement.”"
