“Recently there was a letter to the editor titled, “Learn English if you live the U.S.” and it isn’t the first. In essence, the writer said, “If you are going to make your home in the U.S., learn the language.”
People from other cultures do want to speak English, but it isn’t that simple. There are many obstacles in their paths. The first being where can they learn English? In Franklin County there are few opportunities. One cannot enroll in the public school system after age 17 and most cannot afford college classes. If they could, they would need to know basic English before a college level course.”
