“Sens. Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond and Dick Durbin don’t agree on much.

But on the otherwise divisive issue of immigration reform, Bond, a conservative Republican from Missouri, and Durbin, a liberal Democrat from Illinois, have much in common. For starters, both agree that it is unwise and unrealistic to call for the deportation or criminalization of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants now residing in the United States.

“As a practical problem, you can’t treat 11 million people as felons,” Bond said. “We have to give them some way to pay their dues.”"
