“The district faces a greater responsibility to prepare students such as Lopez and Soto as the percentage of Hispanic (and particularly non-English-speaking) students it enrolls increases.

This school year, about 60 percent of the district’s students are Hispanic. That’s the highest concentration of any school district in San Luis Obispo County.

And 33 percent of its enrollment ”” or 115 of its 381 students ”” are English learners, meaning they aren’t fluent in the language or don’t speak it at all as of last year.”
