“Cuban-born saxophonist Paquito D’ Rivera’s exploration of various music genres led him to create the intoxicating bossa nova sound. FARIDUL ANWAR FARINORDIN caught up with the musician who’s been awarded America’s highest honour for Artistic Excellence, the National Medal of Arts.

IF you didn’t know him, Paquito D’Rivera could seem intimidating.

The 59-year-old Grammy Award winner is built like a Latin “Lucha Libre” wrestler with a bushy white moustache and big strong hands that could easily encircle the girth of your waist. You don’t want to mess with him, you think. “
