Latino churches try to get organized in Long Island, New York

“Taking a page from the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Latino churches on Long Island are banding together with local elected officials and nonprofit organizations to try to organize the growing Latino community.

Leaders at an event Friday that was half news conference and half revival meeting said the Freeport-based Long Island Hispanic Pastoral Association is officially opening a chapter and an office in Suffolk. The umbrella group is temporarily operating out of Iglesia de Dios - Church of God - in Central Islip.”
