“The board of Centro Las Americas will meet later this month to discuss whether to locate a substance abuse treatment program this year in its building at 11 Sycamore St., board president Jose Garcia said yesterday.

He confirmed many of the comments made by Hector E. Reyes and Jack Maroney at a legislative luncheon yesterday at St. Matthew’s parish, 695 Southbridge St., sponsored by housing advocates. Mr. Reyes, former Centro executive director, and Mr. Maroney, a substance abuse counselor, both are members of the Latino Treatment Task Force created by Centro after a meeting 18 months ago at St. Peter’s Church parish center in Main South concerning substance abuse and violence in Worcester and chaired by Dr. Matilde Castiel of UMass Memorial Health Care. “
