“Change has occurred at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of the Lehigh Valley. It was ushered in by the will and vision of its board of directors in order to bring our members and our community increased access to the economic opportunities that abound in the Lehigh Valley. The Hispanic business leaders who run the Hispanic Chamber asked me to return to the board after six months of absence and to lead this organization as its chairperson.

When I first arrived here in 2001, I found a Hispanic community whose leadership came from various non-profit organizations. These great leaders, many of whom have spent countless unpaid hours helping those most in need, were the only bridge between the Hispanic community and the rest of Lehigh Valley. Because these leaders were the only visible Latino leadership, the characterization and perception of the Lehigh Valley Latino community was one of ”poor,” ”needy” and ”helpless.””
