A more complex view of illegal immigration

“Even as illegal immigration seems to be rising again as a matter of concern nationally and in California, a poll released last week suggests that, in many ways, people here have become more accepting of the state’s growing population of foreign-born residents here in violation of the law.

The survey by the Field Poll found that the number of Californians who said they were “extremely concerned” about illegal immigration has declined, more people think illegal immigrants have a net positive effect on the state and fewer think illegals are taking jobs Californians would do. The poll also detected significant support for a guest worker program to legalize current immigrants and allow more to come here to work under controlled conditions.”
