“Bicycle safety is getting a boost among Latino immigrant workers on what can be a dangerous route to work.

Four Nassau bike shops distributed more than 50 donated bicycle helmets, lights and reflective vests to immigrants who use bikes to commute to work.

Nassau County Legislator David Mejias (D-North Massapequa) secured the donations, worth about $2,000, to combat what he said was a higher-than-average accident rate among Hispanic immigrants.”
