“Coyolxauhqui ReMembers” is a collaborative project of the Latina Dance Project that reinterprets the Aztec myth of the moon goddess Coyolxauhqui. In Aztec legend, Coyolxauhqui feared that something evil was growing in her mother’s pregnant womb and attempted to kill her mother, the earth goddess Coatlicue. The child, Huitzilopochtli, sprang from Coatlicue’s womb as a grown warrior and murdered Coyolxauhqui, tossing her remains into the sky, where she became the phases of the moon.”
