“Ortiz, 65, will announce her retirement tonight, during the agency’s anniversary dinner. She founded Barrio Station in 1970.

The nonprofit has brought social services to generations of young Latinos in Barrio Logan, offering them an alternative to drugs and gangs. Today, it has a yearly budget of about $800,000 and 14 employees.”
