“Stepped-up security along the U.S.-Mexico border has caused more illegal immigrants to remain in the United States because they can no longer move freely between here and their home countries.

That, according to a study released Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center, and beefed-up patrols have done little to plug the porous border ”” with an estimated 850,000 illegal immigrants arriving each year since 2000.”
