“Enrique Murillo, Founding Editor of the Journal of Latinos and Education, will make a major presentation at the National Latino Education Summit. The summit will be held March 26-28, 2006 at the El San Juan Hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Murillo will lead a master session on the Journal and on the development of the Handbook of Latinos and Education.
“At the moment, there are still too few major publications on Latinos and Education. There are research reports currently published all over the place or in highly specialized books and journals. Further, there is no one comprehensive published review of theory, research and practice on the topic. Despite some seminal publications, Latino issues remain often seen as limited in focus (academic colonialism). Mainstream publications tend to consider Latino issues as peripheral to broader issues in the discipline. Mainstream publications also tend to focus on nationally known “Latino” authors and look only to the work of a few to publish”, asserted Dr. Murillo. “
