“The murders of two west Phoenix Latinas, shot just over a week ago while working inside a lonchera, underscored some of the risks in mobile vending, especially for women, who make up a large part of the Valley’s operators, Gonzalez and other vendors said.

Loncheras, such as El Pica, typically have lots of cash on hand, no security cameras and oftentimes work in rural or remote areas. The on-site kitchens frequent warehouses and industrial areas and work hand in hand with the Valley’s hungry construction industry, keeping workers close to the job and on production schedules. “
