“While I worked on a story a few years ago about Latinas and politics, some experts on the subject told me that a good many of us get (or will get) our start in politics by becoming involved in our children’s schools.

The path to most Latinas’ political success is first to be elected to an officer position for a school PTA, running for the school board and then on to state and national positions.

Of course, in order for Latinas to win they have to be given the opportunity to run or be appointed first. “
