“U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez contended Monday that Mayor Richard Daley is beatable in next year’s election and said his decision whether to run doesn’t depend on whether Daley seeks another term.

Gutierrez (D-Ill.) decried what he called the lack of debate over important issues in the city and said he is crafting a platform as part of a personal exercise that will determine if he runs. He dismissed a recent Tribune poll that showed him trailing far behind Daley in a one-on-one race.”
