“Cindy Lenk remembers the confused reaction of one of her English as a Second Language students when he first read the Cub Scout oath.
A Hispanic boy at Walker Elementary in Springdale read the oath and asked if it meant he’d be joining the U.S. Army.
“I told him, “No, this is just another type of pledge, like the Pledge of Allegiance,’” said Lenk, an ESL instructor for the Springdale School District. “It doesn’t mean you have to go into the Army.””
