Critics, supporters address Georgia immigration bill

“Supporters of a plan to crack down on undocumented immigrants in Georgia called the effort a boon to public safety and an attempt to unburden overloaded state services during a hearing Tuesday by the state Senate committee considering the legislation.

Opponents called the plan unconstitutional and cruel, saying it would deny education, medical care and other benefits to the families of workers lured to Georgia to help keep some of the state’s largest industries afloat.”
