“Under the program — one of only six of its kind in the country — 10 sheriff’s deputies will undergo four weeks of training to become certified federal immigration officers.
Beginning this spring, they will check the immigration status of every person charged with a crime and processed through Mecklenburg County jail, using a federal database that contains photographs, fingerprints and other information.”
