“Being the first person to go to college in his family was quite an accomplishment for Jorge Mariscal. Despite the struggles to accomplish that, he extended his list of achievements by obtaining a Ph.D and later becoming a published author. - In his newest book, “Brown-Eyed Children of the Sun: Lessons from the Chicano Movement, 1965-1975,” Mariscal talks about the quest for equal rights and economic justice. These are some of the topics that he will discuss during a presentation on Thursday.
“I would like all audience members to learn something about the history of Mexican American activism in the United States, the role played by Chicanos and Chicanas in the progressive struggles of the late 1960s, and the need to renew our efforts to achieve equal opportunity for Latinos,” said Mariscal….”
