Camden’s first Hispanic police chief retires today. New Jersey

“Edwin J. Figueroa was a rookie patrolman when he was called out to disrupt a crowd at a notorious North Camden bar in 1973.

He can still recall a beer bottle hurtling toward him. A second later, the bottle shattered on Figueroa’s face, knocking him out cold. His first and only major injury didn’t hold Figueroa back however, as he went on to serve 33 years in the department. …”
