A bill that would keep undocumented immigrants from receiving public assistance or medical services was changed by the Indiana House on Tuesday night to also set heavy fines for businesses that employ them.

“Rep. John Aguilera, D-East Chicago, proposed an amendment to House Bill 1383 that would punish employers who hire illegal immigrants by fining them the amount of an entire month’s payroll. The House voted 55-43 to adopt the amendment.
“It’s still a bad bill,” Aguilera said after the vote. “I would like to see this bill die.”…”
