“Playing to a standing-room-only, 425-person crowd at Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave., the band El Payo helped launch Flamenco 2006, a celebration of music, dance, film and lectures.

El Payo performed their Nuevo Flamenco set with tight percussion sounds, lyrics and finger-picked guitars. Singers Angela Ponzio and David Gonzalez either traded lyrics at the microphone or harmonized. Clapping drove many parts of the songs with the tempo often determined not by the percussionists, but by the hand rhythm….”
