“Dr. Russell Long’s confidence in the benefit of a good education hasn’t wavered.
He spoke Friday night at the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce banquet, emphasizing the value of education in terms of job promise, earnings prospects and potential for participating in the broader community.
Long, most recently of West Texas A&M University, cited Bureau of Labor Statistics figures that show the difference between the top earning capacity of a high school graduate - $30,599 annually - and a college graduate - $53,781 annually. And besides the $23,000 per year difference, a high school graduate can qualify for only 15 percent of the available jobs in the U.S., Long said….”
