“Culture and language sometimes are barriers between members of the Hispanic community and police sworn to serve and protect them.
For Kalamazoo’s Hispanic American Council, a bit of money went a long way toward breaking down those barriers.
A $500 grant from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation helped the council pay for books, food, drinks and other costs for a program that educated city police officers and housing inspectors about Hispanic language and culture, said Ana Light, the council’s executive director….”
