“Enseñamos Español: We teach Spanish is not the only thing Bellevue School District takes pride in; they also take pride in reaching out to understand, effectively communicate and better serve Spanish speakers. The Bellevue School District launched its new Diversity Program Nuestra Comunidad-Our Community, a newly developed Diversity Program with focus on the Hispanic Community.
Nuestra Comunidad-Our Community Diversity Program- incorporates a long term strategic plan by the district that focuses on understanding the needs of minority ethnic students and their parents to better meet these needs. The phased program takes a strategic planning, marketing and public relations approach. The first phase of the program focuses on continued research in the form of focus groups with middle school and high school students as well as with parents of these students. The goal of the research is to identify the needs of the students and parents and to develop strategies addressing these needs. The second phase of the program will consist of developing an overall strategic plan that will incorporate Diversity Training for school personnel, targeted programs to provide tools and assistance for Hispanic students and parents.. The final stage will focus on increased marketing and public relations efforts focused on the Hispanic media and Hispanic organizations to better communicate the interests and successes of the Hispanic Parents and Hispanic Students of the Bellevue School District. …”
