Language explosion in Baraboo, Wisconsin

“The number of Baraboo students not proficient in English has more than tripled in the last two years, and the School District is requesting a third bilingual professional to help those students adjust to their classrooms and teachers adjust to their curriculums.

“We have had somewhat of an explosion in students with limited English proficiency enrolling,” Director of Pupil Services Gwynne Peterson wrote in a letter to the School Board this month. This year the district hired a full-time bilingual instructor and assistant to work with kids at all grade levels with seven different home languages and varying degrees of English proficiency….”
