“State lawmakers convene today with a significant fact that could shape much of the debate for the entire session: About one in seven children in Arizona schools is here because of illegal immigration.

On the surface, it relates to the issue of how much Arizona taxpayers are going to have to spend to ensure that these children learn English. Lawmakers convene today facing a Jan. 24 federal court deadline to come up with a funding plan or begin paying fines of $500,000 a day….”
