‘Official English’ a tongue-tied idea. Pennsylvania

“But while the mere perception of English as the state’s official language is harmless, the actual legalization of it will have serious adverse effects on Pennsylvania’s image and economy.

H.B. 2089, the Pennsylvania Official Language Act, would designate English as the Commonwealth’s official legal language. As a result, all government-produced documents – including wills, tax records, professional licenses, real-estate records, among others – would be available only in English. The purpose of the legislation, stated in the bill, is to “preserve, protect and strengthen the unifying role of English as the official language of this Commonwealth.”…”
