“The Pew Hispanic Center released new findings today concerning undocumented migrant labor in the U.S. This study analyzes the employment experience of migrants before they left Mexico, their transition into the U.S. labor market, and their economic status in their new jobs. The study also cites that the vast majority were gainfully employed before they left for the U.S.
President Bush has recently announced plans for a guest worker program that would temporarily legalize the status of millions of undocumented workers (UW’s). Some political experts think the White House will pursue this plan before year’s end. The proposed program offers the estimated 11 million UW’s in the United States the chance to register and work for up to six years. They must then return to their home countries for a year to apply for a new work permit….”
