“By teaching Latinos about diabetes in Spanish, rather than English, patients improved their diets, lost weight, lowered their bad cholesterol and blood/glucose levels and saw a rise in good cholesterol. Best of all, most no longer have to take medications or are taking less than before.

“In the Hispanic community, what we’ve found is that people will go to a clinic for help, get diagnosed, receive medication and that’s it,” said Zaida Cordero-MacIntyre, assistant professor of nutrition and lead investigator for the study….”
