“Seeking to capture their first countywide office in more than a decade, Cook County Republicans endorsed a Hispanic former sheriff’s deputy as their candidate for sheriff.

Peter Garza, 46, of North Riverside, worked four years in the sheriff’s office and spent the past 13 years as an investigator with the state’s attorney’s office. He said his law enforcement experience should give him an edge in a race many see as an uphill battle.”
