Masses in Spanish multiply to meet growing demands of Hispanic community in Knoxville, Tennessee

“In the late 1990s, when the Rev. David Boettner, a Roman Catholic priest fluent in Spanish, was at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Northshore, one of his responsibilities was to drive to North Knoxville to Holy Ghost Catholic and preside over the celebration of Mass for the growing number of Hispanic Catholics in the East Tennessee area.

Many who attended those services came from the Sacred Heart parish, so it wasn’t long before Pastor Al Humbrecht at Sacred Heart began including a Spanish Mass as a regular part of its worship cycle on Sunday morning.”
