“The ballet world and South Florida lost a superstar performer last week with the death of Fernando Bujones. He was 50 and in the midst of a new career as artistic director of the Orlando Ballet. His life was cut all too short by a malignant melanoma.

Mr. Bujones died in Miami, the place where he arrived in the world accidentally while his mother visited family here. A dance prodigy, his meteoric career took off early. He began to study ballet at age 7 at a celebrated school in Havana’s Vedado neighborhood under legendary Alicia Alonso. In 1964 he returned to Miami with his family. By age 9 he was awarded a scholarship to the school affiliated with City Ballet in New York.”
