“In another sign that immigration is becoming a potent political issue, five Republican members of Congress from North Carolina are threatening to cut off federal highway aid to the state unless it makes it more difficult for illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses.

Rep. Sue Myrick of Charlotte, a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2008, plans to introduce a bill today that would cut off $890 million in annual federal transportation money unless the state tightens access to driver’s licenses for people in the country illegally.”
